Searching

Use the search box to quickly jump to a location. You can search using any of the following:

  • Archive Catalog ID

  • Decimal degrees (DD) (e.g., latitude/longitude pair)

  • Degrees and decimal minutes (DDM)

  • Degrees, minutes, seconds (DMS)

  • Full or partial address

  • Image ID (online imagery only)

  • Military Grid Reference System (MGRS)

  • Name (e.g., landmark name)

To search for a location:

  1. Enter your search term in the search box.

    • If you are using a text-based search (e.g., address, name), and multiple results are available, possible matches are listed below the search box.

Searching for "BERL" yields multiple results for "BERLIN" around the globe.

    • If a match is not available, you will see a "no data available" message. Check your entry for errors, or try generalizing your search to improve your results.

If 1234 Main San Francisco CA doesn't return results, try just San Francisco, CA.

  2. Select an option from the list, or select ENTER on your keyboard to automatically go to the first location.

The viewport zooms to that location.

You must select ENTER when searching using parameters such as coordinate or grid entry, as these entries do not auto-complete.

If you search for a specific Image ID or Archive Catalog ID, and the image is found, it is automatically selected and displayed in the viewport.

You can also search for catalog IDs/ image IDs within an existing area. Next to the area you want to search, select Area Filters . In the Catalog ID field, enter one or more catalog IDs, separated by a comma. Select Update Filters. If the catalog ID(s) you entered are found within the selected area, the imagery results are filtered by those IDs.
