Taking a Snapshot

Use the Snapshot tool to capture a custom, close-up collage of online images as they appear in the viewport. Completed snapshots are delivered to the Orders panel.

1. Select Imagery. The Imagery panel opens.

2. Zoom to level 12 or higher.

3. From the Imagery Catalog drop-down, select Online Imagery.

4. Select the image(s) you want to appear in your snapshot.

5. On the Imagery panel toolbar, select Snapshot . The Order Snapshot panel opens. A preview of your snapshot loads at the top of the panel.

   When you select the Snapshot tool:

   • The Imagery panel locks

   • If imagery is turned off/hidden , it turns on

6. In the Order Name field, enter a name for the order.

7. Select your snapshot parameters.

   • Output File Format The output format for image delivery.

     Options

     • GeoTiff JPEG compression with YCbCr color space and 95% quality

     • JPEG Compressed format with a small file size; suitable for inserting into PowerPoint and documents

     • JPEG 2000 Compressed; a good choice for large areas where file size is an issue

     • MrSid Compressed 15:1; a good choice for large areas where file size is an issue

     • GeoPDF A georeferenced PDF for use in tools that can read that format

     • NTIF 2.1 (NPJE JP2 4:1) Embedded metadata; useful for military applications that require this format

     Orders are delivered as a ZIP file regardless of the output format selected.

   • Projection Defines how the satellite imagery is mapped to the earth.

     Options

     • Geographic Uses a three-dimensional spherical surface to define locations on the Earth.

     • Universal Transverse Mercator Uses a 2-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system to give locations on the surface of the Earth.

   • Resolution Deliver the order in full or low/screen resolution.

8. (Optional) If you want to include an annotation group in your snapshot, select Include Selected Annotation. A green check indicates that the annotation is included.

   Selecting an Annotation Group to Include in a Snapshot

   1. With the Order Snapshot panel open, select Map Annotations . The Map Annotations tool opens and displays all available annotation groups.

   2. In the Map Annotations tool, select the checkbox next to the annotation group you want to include in the snapshot. The annotations in the group display in the viewport, and also display in the snapshot preview.

      When you select an annotation group, the viewport zooms to the extent of the annotations in the group. Be aware that this may change the initial appearance of your snapshot, from the zoom level to the location.

      After you add an annotation group to a snapshot, zoom and pan the viewport while viewing the adjustments in the snapshot preview window. This ensures that your image displays appropriately sized annotations, contextual surrounding imagery, and all the other details necessary for the perfect snapshot.

      More Information

      • If more than one annotation group is already selected, clear the checkboxes next to any groups you do not want to include.

        Select only the checkbox next to the annotation group that should appear in the snapshot.

        In this example, there are two annotation groups available. Each group is associated with a different image or location on the map. The first group is selected, and will be included in the snapshot.

        

      • Although you can include only one annotation group in a snapshot, the annotation group you select may include multiple individual annotations. Open any group to view the individual annotations in the group. See Viewing Annotations.

        In this example, the First Group annotation group from the previous example is expanded to show the three individual annotations that form the group. The annotation group contains a rectangle, a basic symbol, and some text.

        If you select First Group for your snapshot (as shown in the first example), all three individual annotations will appear in the snapshot.

        

   To remove the annotation, select Remove Selected Annotation.

9. Select Order Snapshot.

10. In the confirmation dialog, check that the order looks correct, then select Place Order.

11. After placing the order, a final confirmation displays your order ID, order name, order date, your order's options, and the total number of credits charged. Select Place Order to finish placing your order or Cancel to make edits.

More About Snapshots

• Snapshots are only available for online imagery; you cannot snapshot Vivid basemaps, Legion imagery, or archive imagery.

• Map rotation does not appear in snapshots.

• You can download your finished snapshot from the Orders panel. See Downloading Orders.

• GDAL does not support all text fonts, colors, and backgrounds. Review GDAL's requirements before importing a snapshot.
