Selecting a Layer

After you add a layer (see Adding Layers), select it from the Layers panel to display it in the viewport.

  1. Select Layers. The Layers panel opens.

  2. Select the layer(s) you want to view. The viewport refreshes to apply the new layer.

  3. To close the Layers panel, select Layers again.

Searching Layers

You can use search to easily locate a layer.

  • In the Search field, enter the name of the layer you want to search for. The Layers panel automatically filters your layers as you type.

Changing Layer Stacking Order and Opacity

You can change how your layers display in the viewport by adjusting their stacking order and opacity. Stacking order affects layer visibility because layers that appear higher in the order show on top of layers that are lower in the order. Likewise, opacity affects layer visibility because when a layer is more transparent (i.e., less opaque), it allows more of an image or the basemap to show through the layer.

  • Do either of the following:

    • Change Stacking Order In the Layers panel, drag layers up or down to rearrange them. Layers at the top of the pane are higher in the stacking order, while layers at the bottom of the pane are lower in the stacking order.

To move a layer to the top of the stacking order, do the following:

      • Next to any layer, select the menu menu, three vertical dots, then select Move to Top.

    • Change Opacity Adjust any layer's opacity using the Opacity slider.

Opacity is not preserved across sessions.

Viewing Additional Layer Metadata

WFS layers may support layer metadata, which allows you to view additional information about content displayed in the layer.

  1. In the Layers panel, select a layer.

  2. In the viewport, locate the content you want to know more about. If additional metadata is available, the cursor changes to a hand . Select the content to view additional information.

This layer shows outlines of each US state. When you select a state, you can see demographic and geographic information about it.

Additional metadata may not be available for all layers. Metadata is supplied by the layer provider and may not be current or correct.

Viewing Layer Details

  • Next to any layer, select the menu menu, three vertical dots, then select View Details. The Layer Details dialog displays the layer ID, name, description (if you entered one when creating the layer), type, URL, and selected third-party layers.
