Ordering Archive Imagery

When you order an image from Maxar's archive catalog, you can access the full-resolution version of that image at any time. You can view the image in MGP Pro or download it to use in third-party GIS software.

The Order Archive Image panel.

1. Select Imagery. The Imagery panel opens.

2. From the Imagery Catalog drop-down, select Archive Imagery or Archive Stereo Pairs.

3. On the image you want to order, select the Image Menu , then select Order Image. The Order Archive Image panel opens.

   If you want to view the image's metadata before placing an order, select the Image Details button. Select Close to return to the ordering panel.

4. (Optional) If you want to use a previously saved template for the order, select Start Order From Saved Template, then select a template from the from the Select Template drop-down.

5. (Optional) In the Order Name field, enter a new name for the order.

   The Order Name field is automatically populated based on imagery parameters. You may want to enter a new, unique name to make your order more easily identifiable in the Orders panel.

6. Complete each section to define your order.

   Delivery

   • Select a delivery option for your order.

     • Orders Manager Delivers the order to the Orders panel, where you can view and download it. See Downloading Orders.

     • Ingest to Streaming Delivers the order to the Imagery panel, where you can view it as a high-resolution, online image. Archive images ordered via Ingest to Streaming are marked as Private and can be discovered and streamed in MGP Pro by users on the same MGP Pro account. See Viewing Private Imagery.

       Ingest to Streaming is only available for Map Ready (3D) and View Ready (2A) imagery. Ingest to Streaming orders are delivered to the Online Catalog.

       Please be patient; ingest to the online (streaming) catalog may take several hours after your order status changes to fulfilled.

   Metadata is not delivered with online imagery orders. It is only delivered with archive imagery orders.

   Additional Direct Delivery

   By default, all orders are delivered to the Orders Manager.

   If you want to send your order to an additional file transfer location, select your desired location.

   Options

   • No Additional Delivery (Default)

   • STFP/FTPS Location

     1. (Optional) If you want to use a previously saved location for the order, select it from the Saved Locations drop-down.

     2. Select your protocol, then enter your credentials, host, port, and directory.

     3. To verify the connection, select Test Connection.

        A successful connection test is required to save the location and to order the image.

     4. (Optional) To save the location to use again later, select Save as Location. The location is added to the Saved Locations drop-down.

   • S3 Bucket

     1. (Optional) If you want to use a previously saved location for the order, select it from the Saved Locations drop-down.

     2. Enter your S3 bucket, folder, region, IAM access key, secret access key, and optional session token.

        • Use the Session Token field if you have a temporary STS token.

        • For regular access keys, leave the Session Token field blank.

        Your S3 bucket must be in the AWS commercial cloud.

     3. To verify the connection, select Test Connection.

        A successful connection test is required to save the location and to order the image.

     4. (Optional) To save the location to use again later, select Save as Location. The location is added to the Saved Locations drop-down.

   • Google Cloud

     1. (Optional) If you want to use a previously saved location for the order, select it from the Saved Locations drop-down.

     2. Enter your service key, bucket, and folder.

        To select a service key from a location on your computer, select the paperclip .

     3. To verify the connection, select Test Connection.

        A successful connection test is required to save the location and to order the image.

     4. (Optional) To save the location to use again later, select Save as Location. The location is added to the Saved Locations drop-down.

   • Azure Cloud

     1. (Optional) If you want to use a previously saved location for the order, select it from the Saved Locations drop-down.

     2. Enter your connection string, bucket, and folder.

     3. To verify the connection, select Test Connection.

        A successful connection test is required to save the location and to order the image.

     4. (Optional) To save the location to use again later, select Save as Location. The location is added to the Saved Locations drop-down.

   • Saved Location

     • (Optional) If you want to use a previously saved location for the order, select it from the Saved Locations drop-down.

   Production Parameters

   • Define your desired production parameters. Available options for each parameter are dependent on the sensor and production level you select. See Available Parameters By Sensor and Production Level.

     • Production Level Applies default settings for the order production parameters, based on the image's sensor.

       Some default production parameter defaults cannot be changed.

       If you select a parameter that is not compatible with one of your previous selections, a validation error displays. Select a different option to continue.

       For example, if you select the NITF 2.1 file format, but you already selected Deflate as the compression type, you will see an error because NITF 2.1 does not support this compression type.

     • Output Bands The output bands for the order. Default bands and available bands depend on your previous selections.

     • Output File Format The output format for image delivery.

       Orders are delivered as a ZIP file regardless of the output format selected.

     • Bits Per Pixel Bits per pixel, or bit depth, defines the number of bits used to describe the number of tones represented for a given pixel. The greater the bit depth, the greater the number of tones (grayscale or color) that can be represented. For example, 8 bits per pixel allows 256 tones for each pixel, while 16 bits per pixel allows 2,048 tones for each pixel.

     • DRA Whether to use DRA on the order. Dynamic Range Adjustment (DRA) will automatically adjust the color and contrast of the output image to form a more aesthetically pleasing image.

     • Compression The compression option for packaging files.

     • Projection Defines how the satellite imagery is mapped to the earth.

     • ACOMP Maxar's Atmospheric Compensation (AComp) algorithm provides an estimate of the surface spectral reflectance as it would be measured at ground level in the absence of atmospheric scattering or absorption. By compensating for atmospheric conditions such as haze and water vapor, AComp allows for accurate imagery analysis and supports feature extraction applications.

     • Kernel Resampling is necessary to align the pixels in an image to a coordinate grid. Resampling techniques alter the original pixel values.

       Maxar offers the following resampling options.

       Available resampling options may vary by product, sensor, production level, and output bands.

       Resampling Kernels	Definition
       2x2 Bilinear	Uses the weighted average of the four closest pixels in the input image. Produces a final image with a smoother appearance than an image processed using Nearest Neighbor. The original pixel values are altered. Available for panchromatic, MS, and bundles. Not available for pansharpened.
       4x4 Cubic Convolution	Considers the nearest 16 pixels synthesizing digital numbers using a polynomial calculation, known as the default kernel. Produces a smoother appearance than using the Nearest Neighbor method. Provides slightly sharper edge detail than the bilinear interpolation method. The original pixel values are altered. Available for panchromatic, pansharpened, MS, and bundles.
       Enhanced	Uses a high-pass Laplacian filter applied to the panchromatic data as a preprocessing step before pansharpening. The result is an image with very fine detail and excellent color balance. Available for panchromatic and pansharpened. Not available for MS or bundles.
       MTF	Uses an 8 x 8-pixel window to determine the value of the destination pixel. Based on an empirical modeling of the optical and electronic properties of the sensors. Produces the sharpest edge detail of all the methods. Available for panchromatic, MS, and bundles. Not available for pansharpened.
       Nearest Neighbor	Selects the radiance value from the nearest pixel in the input image. Does not alter the radiance values of the original image. This method can result in a blocky or disjointed image because no averaging is performed. Available for panchromatic, MS, and bundles. Not available for pansharpened.

     • HD Maxar's proprietary high-definition (HD) technology enhances the visual clarity of the company's high-resolution satellite imagery. HD products are noticeably sharper, making information easier to understand and interpret than those in native resolution. The resulting image is aesthetically refined with precise edges by increasing the number of pixels to generate well-constructed details. Learn more about HD.

       • HD requires native 50 cm imagery to create a synthetic 30 cm HD pixel product.

       • HD requires native 30 cm imagery to create a synthetic 15 cm HD pixel product.

   Clipping

   • Select how you would like to clip the ordered area.

     Options

     • Full Image Strip (No Clipping) (Default)

       • To zoom to the extent of the image, select See Full Image.

     • Use Viewport

       • To draw an AOI for the current viewport, select Re-Define.

       • To automatically zoom to the largest allowable clipped area, select Max Fit.

       • To automatically zoom to the smallest allowable clipped area, select Min Fit.

         Min Fit and Max Fit create areas based on center of the current viewport. Use the Re-Define, zoom and pan, and search tools to roughly select your desired location before using either of these zoom options.

     • Clip to Area

       • Select a saved area from the drop-down.Select a saved area from the drop-down or enter a search term.

         The search drop-down displays up to 25 saved areas. Selecting an area draws the AOI on the map and recalculates the order price for the selected area.

         If you try to place an order using an area that intersects with a georestricted location, you will receive an error.

   Price

   As you make and update order selections, the Price section displays a real-time quote. The charge is determined by the credit rate (credit cost per unit), multiplied by the number of units (in this case, sq km) in your clipped area.

   • Review the quote.

   In these two images, the clipping area affects the total charge because the number of units (sq km) has changed.

   

   This order is based on the Max Fit of the viewport, and costs 2920392.22 credits.

   

   This order is based on the Min Fit of the viewport, and costs 0.65 credits.

   Note that rates shown here are for illustrative purposes only. They are not applicable to all imagery products, and they may not reflect rates in your instance of MGP Pro.

   There is no cost for archive images ingested to streaming.

7. Select Order Image.

8. In the confirmation dialog, check that the order looks correct, then select Place Order.

   After placing the order, a final confirmation displays your order ID, order name, order date, your order's options, and the total number of credits charged. Select Place Order to finish placing your order or Cancel to make edits.

9. (Optional) If you want to save your order options as a template to use later, select Save As Template. In the pop-up, enter a name for the template, then select Save.

   

10. Save your order options as a template to use them again later.
